PEEK Tubing FAQ
Is PEEK tubing flexible?
PEEK tubing is semi-rigid rather than soft and highly flexible. IDEX Health & Science describes PEEK as a hard but slightly flexible polymer used for HPLC fittings and tubing, while Victrex highlights the material’s strength, stiffness and dimensional stability. The actual bend behavior changes substantially with OD, ID, wall thickness, grade, temperature and length. Do not approve a routing radius from the resin name alone. Request a sample in the intended dimensions and test installation force, minimum bend radius, spring-back and any stress transferred to the connector or protected component
Can every PEEK tube operate continuously at 260°C?
No. Victrex reports a 260°C (500°F) continuous-use temperature for its PEEK polymer, but that is a material-level reference under the applicable test conditions. A finished tube or fluid assembly can require a much lower limit because dimensions, stress, pressure, fittings, chemicals, electrical loading and required service life all affect performance. For example, IDEX lists a maximum recommended operating temperature of 100°C for its PEEK tubing used in fluidics, illustrating why resin data must not be copied directly into a tubing specification. WELLELE should confirm a temperature only for the quoted grade, tube geometry and operating condition
Is every PEEK tube USP Class VI compliant?
No. A polymer family name does not establish USP Class VI compliance for every grade or every finished tube. Victrex states that its portfolio includes natural, reinforced, wear, temperature-enhanced and industry-specific grades, and that certifications apply to specific grades. The buyer should identify the exact intended use and request documentation for the resin grade actually quoted. The supplier must also clarify whether the document covers only the raw material or extends to the processed tubing. Do not describe WELLELE tubing as USP Class VI compliant unless the exact grade, manufacturing scope and supporting document set have been reviewed and linked to the order
Can WELLELE review custom OD, ID or wall?
Yes. WELLELE can review a custom OD, ID and wall combination, but feasibility is not determined by one dimension in isolation. OD, ID and wall are mathematically related, and extrusion or expansion behavior can make one tolerance more critical than the others. Send the nominal dimensions, tolerance priorities, length format, straightness or spool requirement, application and annual volume. WELLELE will identify the controlling dimension, tooling or process questions and the measurements required for approval. A drawing-based review is recommended before any statement that “any size” is available
What should I send for quotation?
Send a drawing if available. Otherwise provide product form, OD, ID, wall, length, tolerances, color, application, continuous and peak temperature, chemical exposure, pressure or voltage, bend radius, fitting or component dimensions, quantity and required documents. For heat shrink, include maximum pass-over and minimum gripping diameters. For capillary tubing, include flow, solvent and connection system. Also state the project stage—prototype, validation or production—because sample scope, inspection and packaging requirements often change between stages
Can I request a sample before a production order?
Yes, subject to size, material and process feasibility. Define what the sample must prove: fit, insertion, bending, heat-shrink recovery, pressure, leakage, chemical exposure, electrical insulation, appearance or documentation. Provide the actual component or a dimensioned drawing and agree on acceptance criteria before the sample is made. A sample that only confirms appearance should not be treated as validation for pressure, dielectric, chemical or long-term thermal performance.
How are MOQ and lead time determined?
MOQ and lead time depend on resin and size availability, tooling, extrusion or expansion setup, tolerance, cut length, inspection, cleaning, packaging, documents and total volume. A standard or previously produced geometry may have a different commercial path from a new thin-wall, tight-tolerance or special-color design. WELLELE should quote prototype timing and production timing separately and identify any material or tooling assumptions. No universal MOQ or delivery promise should be published until the exact specification is reviewed.
